MCMC probes PAS leader over false racial claim in royal attack incident
Mazhilamani: Perak PAS Youth chief Hafez Sabri deserves no forgiveness or reprieve for his ill-intended action that could have detonated a national disaster.
Plans have been going on since the end of the 15th general election to unseat the prime minister and bring down the government.
The opposition resorted to demonising the federal coalition government by organising a series of street demonstrations. They shamelessly claimed that a recent demonstration would draw a million protestors, but failed miserably.
Till today, the opposition has not given any hint of who its PM candidate is, its cabinet composition, or how it plans to promote unity among Malaysians, or how it will manage a vibrant economy, or how it will eradicate the corruption that is ailing our country.
Instead, they are hoping to remove the numerous corruption cases against their leaders and friends by coming into power.
The safety of the Perak sultan was not the priority for Hafez; he just wanted to exploit the situation to cause a racial flare.
Fortunately, the authorities acted quickly to avoid a disastrous outcome, and the people who witnessed the event responded responsibly and wisely to speak truth and dismiss falsehoods.
Hafez must stop his blame game and instead thank God that his intention was divinely defeated.
GSVL: Is spreading lies and slander now part of the PAS philosophy? Hafez should be charged under the Sedition Act 1948 because of the gravity of his statement.
He was instigating racial animosity or worse, inviting the Malays to react violently to the alleged attack by a “Chinese” woman on the Perak ruler. The woman turned out to be a mentally ill Malay person.
It is obvious that PAS has become a clear and present danger to public order and safety, going by the frequent provocative statements of its leaders that touch on sensitive matters of race, religion and royalty.
The home minister has the power under the Societies Act 1966 to ban the entire party. A show-cause notice should be issued to PAS. PAS behaves as if it is above the law.
MerdekaMerdekaMerdeka: Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID), it must be ensured that racists like Hafez are dealt with the heaviest punishment accorded by our laws.
Hafez is supposedly an elected official representing his constituents. That’s very doubtful based on his fixated racist look at and against minority communities, especially the Chinese.
Hafez is not representative of Malaysia Muhibbah. He must not be allowed to hold his elected post. The police cannot be lackadaisical in this particular case; send out a clear message to all others like him that there is no place in Malaysia for them, and that they will be locked up and fined.
BetterMY: The fact that Hafez brought up race is already proof of malice. These acts of racial profiling have been increasing of late, and it’s time to put a stop to it. Enough is enough.
What should have been of concern in that incident is the breach of security. What if this were a person carrying explosives? How many lives would have been lost? We should be more concerned about the security detailing and SOPs, not playing the racial card.
Undecided: The probe is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which deals with the misuse of network services.
The legislation provides for a maximum fine of RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
If the courts find Hafez guilty and punish him with a fine and imprisonment, I believe it will help to curb such unpatriotic behaviour in dividing the country.
Politicians must be held to a higher standard of behaviour when it comes to racial or religious instigation, as it is detrimental to national unity.
EyeInTheSky: After recoding his statement, just charge him as he has already admitted to it. Fine and sentence him with a deterrent sum and time frame so that this type of racial antics will not be repeated by others.
We all already know people in certain positions have been using racial remarks to stir problems, and it is time we put a full stop by giving a painful fine and sentence. Otherwise, we will know such antics will just crop up again, as they think the fines and sentences are no big deal.
Will the authorities be really serious about this and not brush this away with just a reprimand and a pat on his back? - Mkini
