Gobind What Is Pos Malaysia To You
SOMETIMES in December last year, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said that the ministry would be looking seriously into complaints by Pos Malaysia customers that they had not received letters or parcels, and that the MCMC would be digging into the issues.Sad! This blame game continues, and Pos Malaysia is always made a loser. I call this a mere big SHIT by Gobind, MCMC and the government. Its an easy way of declining to take up responsibility in organising a positive engagement with Pos Malaysia, make it a profitable corporate and getting the public trust again. The MCMC especially, must sit down with Pos Malaysia management in a forward looking manner and not just taking them for granted.Yeah, it's nice to batter the national postal company for remote cases - lost shipment or late delivery - but for your information, what had the government done to assist Pos Malaysia elevate its corporate position? What has the MCMC been doing all this while to ensure that Pos Malaysia operates in tandem with the world's postal business, that they are able to regulate their competitive charges and chart their future?Tell me, what's the point to privatising it without the entity being given a free hand in making decisions? Why must the MCMC flex its muscle on Pos Malaysia and barring it from hiking up the postal charges since the international rates are rising rapidly? All these are hard to comprehend. With the ever increasing need for postal solution, online marketing and population growth, Pos Malaysia is the only postal company still sticking to the old 'sinking' rates. With cheap rates and expanding area of responsibility, it cant help but let the sack burst, thus running on losses. I think the government wants just exactly this for political obligation, knowing how sentimental a cheap postal service is for most Malaysians who do no understand the business, and how Putrajaya can leverage it for votes. The MCMC? This regulatory body is another culprit in suppressing Pos Malaysia. Despite being a friend, it acts as the Big Boss to complicate and makes matters worst. Busy making big cash with Telcos? Some believe so!Hello! Pos Malaysia Bhd incurred a net loss of RM15.10 million in the first-quarter (Q1) ended June 30, 2019, from a net profit of RM4.98 million in the same period a year ago. The net loss incurred was due to higher cost of sales and operating expenses from one off charges of impairment. This is the most critical segment the government, via its MCMC, must look into. The MCMC should be assisting Pos Malaysia and not to make it sink any further. Act as a facilitator, not as a 'business dictator'. The top bosses can rest comfortably with their Telco friends but do remember that postal services are the heartbeat in any countries. If you dont care about their predicament, you might end up having to deliver letters and parcels yourself. Its Q1 revenue dropped 2.97 per cent to RM572.95 million from RM590.46 million attributable to lower contribution from its postal services and aviation segments. Its business outlook would remain challenging this year as the contraction in mail volume continues, as business enterprises were switching to electronic and digital channels, foregoing mail-based communications while Universal Service Obligations (USO) costs remained high. The group’s courier business also expected to continue operating in a competitive environment, pressured by price and cost challenges. Overall, the group was cautiously optimistic about some of its businesses, citing that its key revenue generators, namely Postal Services and Courier business, remain challenging due to the issues highlighted earlier. So, what is stopping the MCMC. Gobind should first look into the needs of Pos Malaysia rather than shooting at it blindly. Get the MCMC to become a 'darling' in Pos Malaysia's business. Make everybody smile. If they are happy, everybody will have a good sleep...
