GEORGE TOWN: A chicken abattoir linked to Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) is to face investigations over allegations that its workers have yet to be paid.
Penang deputy chief minister Mohamad Abdul Hamid said the state government would collaborate with relevant agencies to inspect and investigate Ikhwan Poultry Sdn Bhd, located in Tasek Gelugor.
He said Ikhwan Poultry is connected to GISBH, based on photographs found online, and is still in operation. It would be investigated over allegations that its workers have not received their wages or payments, he told FMT.
Mohamad also said that Ikhwan Poultry had yet to apply for halal certification.
He also said that the state government was continuously keeping tabs on welfare homes and businesses operated by GISBH in Penang to ensure no laws were breached including religious violations.
GISBH made headlines earlier this month when police raided welfare homes authorities linked to the company and rescued 402 children, some of whom were sodomised and coached to sexually assault others.
Police then arrested 171 people, including an ustaz and a hostel warden; since then 155 more people have been arrested, with 102 men and 84 women rescued from premises linked to GISBH.
The company has denied that it operated the welfare homes that were raided and rejected claims that children under its care were sodomised or forced to sexually assault others.
However, its CEO, Nasiruddin Ali, later admitted that cases of sodomy had occurred within the organisation in the past.
The company owns supermarkets, minimarkets, bakeries, 120 restaurants and other businesses in Malaysia, the Middle East, Europe and China, according to a 2022 report. It previously said it had discarded its former image as the business wing of the banned sect Al-Arqam and is currently positioned as a multinational company.- FMT
