Eyes On Johor State Assembly As Muhyiddin Arrives At Sitting
Following the ouster of Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Perak menteri besar via a confidence vote in the state assembly on Friday, the focus has now shifted to Johor assembly over the possibility of such a move against its menteri besar, Hasni Mohammad.
Today is the last day for the sitting which had begun on Nov 26 where Hasni is expected to wrap up the debate, as well as having a voting round to approve the state's budget 2021.
Utusan Malaysia reported that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the Gambir assemblyperson, arrived at the hall in Kota Iskandar at 11.22am.
His seat was on the second row behind Hasni, and next from two former MBs Osman Sapian (Bersatu - Kempas) and Sahruddin Jamal (Bukit Kepong).
Yesterday, Johor speaker Suhaizan Kayat told Malaysiakini that his office did not receive any confidence motion to test Hasni's support in the state assembly.
However, a confidence motion tabled as an emergency motion today is still possible, he said.
Hasni's government is made up of two coalitions, namely BN and Perikatan Nasional.
BN has 14 assemblypersons from Umno and two from MIC while PN has 12 assemblypersons from Bersatu and one from PAS, giving them a total of 29.
The opposition Harapan has 27 assemblypersons comprising 14 from DAP, nine from Amanah and four from PKR.
The possibility to oust Hasni was raised by Osman who suggested that Bersatu could punish Umno by doing the same to its Johor Menteri Besar.
This followed the removal of Faizal on Friday after Umno initiated a confidence vote against him.
Only 10 assemblypersons supported Faizal while 48 voted against him, including 24 out of 25 Umno assemblypersons. - Mkini
