Experts Deny Covid 19 Vaccines Cause Severe Anaesthesia Reaction

The Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists has refuted recent claims on social media linking Covid-19 vaccination with adverse anaesthesia reactions.
Its president Professor Dr Marzida Mansor and Academy of Medicine of Malaysia’s College of Anaesthesiologists’ president Dr Jahizah Hassan released a joint statement yesterday warning the public about these false claims.
“To date, there is no scientific evidence to validate the unfounded misinformation.
“Allowing such misstatements to propagate may impact many vulnerable individuals awaiting anaesthesia for surgical procedures and their inclination for vaccination.
“Hence the need for us to address this with urgency,” the joint statement read.
Marzida and Jahizah reassured the public that guidelines are in place for Covid-19 positive patients to undergo surgery.
Clarifying the issue, they said recently vaccinated individuals may be asked to defer non-urgent surgeries, not because of interactions with anaesthesia.
Instead, patients are asked to complete two doses of vaccine to receive maximised protection against Covid-19 before coming to the hospital.
The statement added that vaccinated individuals may show post-vaccination symptoms such as muscle pain or fever over the time of their surgical operations.
“Deferment here is to ensure that the side effects of the vaccine are not confused with other side effects related to the operative procedure,” they added.
Marzida and Jahizah also emphasised that recent vaccination should not be the reason to defer emergency surgeries.
“We encourage patients to seek expert advice from their healthcare professionals who will be able to provide detailed explanations on this matter,” the statement said. - Mkini
