On Sept 14, FMT reported that the JAC was in limbo as there were five vacancies on the nine-member commission, leaving it without the minimum quorum of five required to convene a meeting.
One vacancy arose after former CJM Zabidin Diah retired in February. Four other members saw their terms expire on Sept 3.
They were former chief justice Raus Sharif, former Federal Court judge Suriyadi Halim Omar, retired Sarawak AG Abdul Razak Tready, and International Islamic University associate professor Shamrahayu Ab Aziz.
Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, Court of Appeal president Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, and Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abdul Rahman Sebli sit on the board by virtue of their positions in the judiciary.
The remaining member of the JAC is Justice Nallini Pathmanathan, the senior Federal Court judge appointed under Section 5(1)(e) for a two-year term. - FMT
