End Muafakat Officially Umno Veterans Tell Party Leaders

Umno Veterans Club has suggested that the party should officially terminate the cooperation with PAS in order to avoid misunderstanding about the status of the Muafakat Nasional pact.
Its secretary Mustapha Yaakub (above) urged Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to release an official statement declaring the death of Muafakat.
“Umno Veterans Club has wanted Muafakat to be disbanded to avoid it being ridiculed and politicised.
“PAS, which has arrogantly left Umno in Muafakat by choosing to be with Bersatu in Perikatan Nasional (PN), still places their hope and constantly brings up Muafakat.
“(PAS secretary-general) Takiyuddin Hassan’s latest statement clearly shows that PAS is mocking Muafakat,” Mustapha said in a statement today.
Takiyuddin had said the unification of Muslims through Muafakat initiated by PAS and Umno was the best formula.
This is because the unification of Muslims is not limited to certain parties only, he added.
Instead, any political party, NGO or individual who has the same goal of Muslims’ unification as stipulated in the Muafakat charter can join, Takiyuddin said.
“As such, PAS is still urging for this unity among all parties, especially the Malay-Muslim, bumiputera and non-Malay parties that are not extreme, as mentioned by PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang,” he added.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid HamidiHowever, Zahid had stressed that the cooperation between the two parties through Muafakat will be set aside during the 15th general election.
He said Umno had given space to PAS to agree on the matters in the Muafakat charter several times but did not manage to reach a consensus.
As such, Umno Veterans Club said they want their party leadership to stop the drama from PAS and end their cooperation officially.
“In this way, it can also preserve PAS’ dignity from being ‘divorce crazy’ (gila talak),” he said. - Mkini
