Muafakat Nasional Exists But Is Dead Says Perlis Umno Chief
Perlis Umno chief Azlan Man has disputed Keterah Umno chief Annuar Musa’s view that the MN alliance is alive and well.PETALING JAYA: Perlis Umno chief Azlan Man has described the alliance of PAS and Umno in Muafakat Nasional (MN) as “dead”, although some Umno members have remained optimistic about the pact.
“MN is still there, but it is not active and can be described as ‘dead’. I can’t figure out where the coalition is going after this,” he said, according to Berita Harian.
His remarks were in contrast to the views of Ketereh Umno division chief Annuar Musa who said last week that the Umno-PAS alliance in MN was alive and well and is ready to face the coming 15th general election.
Azlan said PAS seemed to be more inclined towards working with Perikatan Nasional (PN). Umno has decided not to work with PN, and also decided that they would not cooperate with Bersatu.
Bersatu, formed by a breakaway group of Umno members, heads the PN coalition, which formed the federal government led by PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin from March 2020 until August last year.
An Umno faction was part of the PN government until the party withdrew parliamentary support for the coalition, causing the collapse of the Muhyiddin government and the formation of a new coalition government under Ismail Sabri Yaakob of Umno.
Azlan said: “There is an issue. We can make our own conclusions on where MN is headed, but ultimately it is up to the top decision-makers of the party to make that decision.”
He said the Umno Supreme Council, which would determine MN’s direction in the future, would consider the developments now and in the future. - FMT
