Enact Reform Policies To Counter Green Wave Of Pas Kit Siang
It is up to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s government to implement reformist policies that can prevent the country from drowning in PAS’ “green wave”, said DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
He urged the government to learn from what happened during the 15th general election (GE15) and work to avoid the country’s democracy from being hijacked by politics of “lies, fear, hate, race, and religion.”
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang“Whether the ‘green tide’ phenomenon becomes an irresistible wave will depend on the Anwar unity government’s ability to implement reformist policies and programmes to reset nation-building policies and principles to return to the vision of the nation’s founders.
“It is imperative for the government to deal with the problem of disinformation and polarisation of the social media, which pose an existential threat to the Malaysian parliamentary democracy, and create a clean, honest, and incorruptible government,” said the veteran politician in a statement today.
Implementing such policies would ensure the country does not become a “complete Islamic state” by the 17th general election in 2032, Lim added.
In Wednesday’s Padang Serai parliamentary election in Kedah, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Azman Nasrudin won with a majority of 16,260 votes.
PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin described the victory as a vote of “no confidence” against the new federal government.
The coalition, which comprises Bersatu, PAS, and Gerakan, has won 13 out of 14 parliamentary seats in Kedah and all seats in Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu - a phenomenon that some observers described as “PN’s northern crescent”.
The coalition now has 74 seats in the Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
