Don T Let Fire Incident Disappear Into X Files
YOURSAY | Gov't must probe root cause of Puchong fire
Massive gas pipeline fire in Puchong
112 rescued from gas pipeline fire, flames getting smaller
OCT: Looking at the intensity of the fire, this is a serious fire incident. There is no way a pipeline can leak as it was built with stringent standards and international guidelines.
Most probably, the leakage was caused by an external, unidentified and under-supervised nearby construction.
Will the government agencies dare to find the culprit and root cause of this serious fire incident, or will it remain in the X-files?
Let's wait and see what the government can find out and take responsibility and be accountable.
Koel: As of 3.40pm yesterday, the Fire and Rescue Department said 190 houses, 148 cars, and 11 motorcycles had been damaged by the fire and its heatwave.
There are allegations that the residents of the area were concerned about these gas lines being laid so close to their homes. Can anyone confirm this? Were contractors doing some work around these lines in recent days?
Are we going to see more of these catastrophes, possibly arising from reckless developments, unethical and callous businesses, apathetic environmental agencies and greedy councils that fail to prioritise people's safety and wellbeing?
Councils and environmental agencies should be monitoring the juxtaposition of residential areas with highly dangerous and toxic spaces like the laying of gas lines, the location of highly inflammatory worksites and factories, the location of toxic incinerators, the locations of petrol stations, the siting of industrial zones, the thoughtless siting of air traffic maintenance hubs and cargo plane hangars - all located within easy distance of people's home, thereby endangering their lives.
Instead of preventing greedy developers from building homes in areas where there are plans for such dangerous activities, these agencies and councils keep a collusive silence to enable irresponsible developers to make money.
Who pays the price for all this reckless endangerment of people's well-being?
People pour their life savings into buying their homes. And when these disasters eventually do happen, it is they who pay the price. Imagine losing homes and lives, thanks to the ruthlessness of these powerful and untouchable operators.
Windy: Obviously, the design of the gas pipeline has to be reviewed. From the various news reports, we gathered that it took more than two hours to shut off and isolate the gas supply to the burning leak.
The length of time to shut it off is unacceptable.
A better control system needs to be put in place in an emergency like this. It should not take more than 15 minutes.
Anonymous_3f4b: This country is ill-equipped to deal with grave emergency response. There is no stop gap immediate breaker in cases of real-time emergency.
I dread to think of what will happen in case of sudden earthquakes, tornadoes, tsunami, wild fires and other real life public emergencies if and when that happens.
Mano: There are several possibilities and questions surrounding why this calamity has happened.
1. There were circuit breakers installed, and people who obtained the contracts were paid fully, but are they dummy circuit breakers? Remember the inquiry in one custodial death case. It was revealed that the CCTVs in a police station police lockup were dummy CCTV.
2. Are there faulty, below par quality materials being used?
3. Were there proper follow-ups and maintenance of the place?
AntiRacial: While the exact cause remains under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that a gas pipeline leak spanning approximately 500 metres led to the fire.
Some residents noted recent digging activities near the affected area, speculating that these works might have contributed to the incident.
If the above incident was caused by digging activities, who allowed it?
If the work is allowed and approved, who is responsible for approving it?
Is Petronas so poor at maintaining and managing its system?
Apanama is back: A Bernama survey found that victims who suffered minor injuries were placed at the Sri Maha Kaliamman temple in Subang Jaya to receive treatment from Health Ministry personnel.
So, a Hindu temple with Goddess Kaliamman is a place to treat the people with minor injuries by Health Ministry personnel on the second day of Raya.
This is what we call a multi-racial society, which the Madani government failed to see and claimed as “victory”.
I trust those who were affected by the fire are fine. I pray they will have a speedy recovery. - Mkini
