Detractors Troll Pmx For Claiming Even Tyrannical Pharaohs Had Merit In His Anti Corruption Speech

“EVEN tyrannical pharaohs also had merit,” declared Prime Minister Datuk Sri Anwar Ibrahim at the recent Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission;s (MACC) 58th anniversary celebration and the launch of Keep Malaysia Clean campaign in Putrajaya.
As reported in Malaysiakini, PMX went on to applaud courageous efforts of the graft buster in going after individuals with reputation of having “done meritorious deeds”.
“(Actually) everyone has merit. The cleaners have merit, the village headmen have merit, even corrupt people have merit. The Pharaoh has merit, (for example) by feeding thousands of people every day but by the Pharaoh’s own way,” justified the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman.
These grand pronouncements have not gone down well as can be seen from the 3.8K comments that flooded the Malaysiakini BM’s Facebook page which highlighted the news.
Hanging writ large was Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s infamous escape from 47 graft-related charges by means of DNAA (dismissal not amounting to acquittal) which the Malaysian public has grown well acquainted with.

“Disgusted” was the reaction of one commenter over PMX blowing his own trumpet in the battle against graft. By having Zahid stand by his side as Deputy PM says plenty about his commitment to fighting corruption in the country, this observer noted contemptuously.

Criticising the PKR president for still having an opposition mentality, one commenter argued that PMX is only a good orator who kept harping on the same issue without providing anything of substance.
No names or proof – just plenty of hot air to cover up his own shortcomings – was the damning verdict here.

The former Sungai Buloh prison detainee was also reminded of his jailing for abuse of power, an insinuation that pots should not be calling kettles black.

Some openly asked if this meant that PMX himself is open to investigations by the MACC. This is especially true if one would later lose power, it was also added.

A few commenters did praise the man behind the Reformasi movement for having the guts to go after respected figures but these voices were few and far between.

The perception from these comments here is pretty clear and damning. Public confidence in PMX’s leadership and the Madani administration is at an all-time low.
There are many reasons for this but it is not helped by self-aggrandising speeches like this that irk the public.
All they see is a PM who “cakap tak serupa bikin” (deeds do not match the promises) as in the case of his “ex-disciple (referring to DPM Zahid) who already has one foot in the prison” yet was spared by the DNAA.
