Nga Kor Ming Trolled For Over Zealously Praising Macc For Its Zero Tolerance Anti Graft Stance

IT SHOULD be obvious – do NOT trumpet minor achievements when there are plenty of past failures or loopholes abound in the current system.
Someone obviously forgot to remind Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming who proceeded to shout from the rooftops that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) practiced a “zero tolerance policy” towards corruption, thus reflecting the Madani administration’s all-out commitment to combat graft.
In a statement posted on the DAP’s official Facebook page, Nga who is also the party’s deputy chairman was referring to the sacking of 20 immigration officials linked to the “counter setting” scandal”. A further 227 individuals are being investigated.
The Teluk Intan MP further pointed to RM5 bil in illicit assets seized last year as proof of Prime Minister Datuk Serti Anwar Ibrahim’s seriousness in tackling this deep-rooted malaise.
“By dismissing 20 corrupt immigration officers and aggressively cracking down on corruption, the Madani government is not only fostering a culture of integrity within but also strengthening the confidence of both domestic and foreign investors in Malaysia with the goal of being among the top 30 least corrupt nations in the Corruption Perception Index,” boasted the 52-year-old lawyer.
The post has already generated 945 likes, 422 comments and 19 shares at time of publication with many commenters keen to remind the former Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker of the many perceived failures or shortcomings in this area during the Madani rule.
One commenter doubted the “zero tolerance” claim as it was said that many cases remain unresolved due to insufficient evidence, thus allowing for perpetrators to return to their posts.

The Madani administration’s track record in graft busting was also questioned with many highlighting cases that affect its own MPs and cronies that did not result in successful prosecutions or even investigated at all.
They included that linked to Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh’s husband and even that of Deputy PM Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s 47 prima facie charges of criminal breach of trust (CBT), graft and money laundering which was granted DNAA (dismissal not amounting to acquittal).

In all frankness, Nga’s statement invited plenty of ridicule for its perceived hypocrisy, not to mention reeking of self-praise.
The many unresolved incidences of alleged corruption, especially Zahid’s infamous DNAA are a taint on the Madani administration’s credentials.
In fact, one commenter pointed out that action tended to be targetted at those in opposition while those on the same coalition seem to get away scot-free.

The electorate is NOT impressed by these self-declared “victories” that do little to inspire public confidence that things have changed for the better.

Until there is a sea change in culture or at least success in a high-profile graft bust, perhaps incumbent government officials should keep mum lest they invite scorn and ridicule. They should always remember the English proverb “people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones”.
