Dbkl To Build Flood Walls At Hotspots To Replace Sandbags
Kuala Lumpur mayor Mahadi Che Ngah says DBKL will be holding more meetings on flood mitigation management. (Bernama pic)KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is in the process of obtaining a suitable design to build “flood walls” at flash flood hotspots identified in the capital.
Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah said these walls would replace the use of sandbags, which he added were just temporary measures employed to combat the problem of flash floods in the city.
“These walls must be designed carefully so that they can prevent the overflow of strong currents during heavy rains, thus serving to stop water from reaching low-lying areas.
“We have already engaged a competent contractor to build them once the design is finalised,” he told reporters after launching the Kuala Lumpur Sport, Event and Facilities (KLSPEF) mobile app at Dataran DBKL today.

“We will be meeting this week to discuss in more detail other appropriate steps to be taken based on the latest data from DID in an effort to deal with the high amount of rainfall expected,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mahadi, in his speech, said the KLSPEF app would enable city folks to make bookings and payments for 63 multipurpose halls and sports complexes under the supervision of DBKL online. - FMT
