Dbkl S Denial On Rm30 75m Lamp Post Contract Raises More Questions

Kuala Lumpur City Hall's (DBKL) denial that they had consented to awarding Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd (SCIB) with a contract valued at RM30.75 million to replace lamp pole units has only raised more questions, said Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng.
“DBKL’s statement as reported raises more questions than it answers. Who is actually paying whom RM30.75 million for the 200 street lamps contract?
“Is DBKL denying that there was an engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract valued at RM30.75 million for the replacement of 200 lamp posts in the Klang Valley?
“Will DBKL and the Securities Commission ask SCIB, a public listed company, for clarification?” asked Lim in a statement today.
Previously, Lim had urged the government to clarify this matter and questioned whether it was justified for the contract to be valued so high for only 200 lamp pole units.
The lawmaker had also said he will seek clarification from DBKL on whether the contract was awarded through open tender.
Kepong MP Lim Lip EngEarlier today, DBKL had issued a statement denying media reports that they had appointed or consented to appoint SCIB or any of its subsidiaries to carry out any work for the city council.
This came after reports were published alleging that SCIB, through its subsidiary SCIB Properties Sdn Bhd, had received an appointment letter for an EPCC contract worth RM30.75 million from Ennova Sdn Bhd involving the replacement of 200 lamp pole units in the Klang Valley for DBKL.
It was reported earlier this week that DBKL’s smart lamp pole replacement is expected to start this month up until May 2023.
Appointed in phases
DBKL, in a statement later, elaborated the lamp post are integrated with telecommunication facilities to facilitate the rollout of 5G.
It said a total of 29 panel companies which possess network facilities provider licences were being appointed in phases to replace old lamp posts with new ones integrated with telecommunication transmitters.
However, DBKL said it had not consented to any parties appointing SCIB to do the work.
It added that the value of the contact purportedly awarded to SCIB was out of its knowledge. - Mkini
