Batu PKR youth disturbed by bribes of rice bags
9:30pm: Batu, Kuala Lumpur - Batu PKR Youth is disturbed by the unfair practices of P Naganathan who distributed rice bags to voters yesterday evening and is filing a police report for action to be taken against the candidate.
Its division chief Muhammad Sabda Suluh Lestari Yahya says at least 50 bags of rice have been distributed to voters in a surau in Bandar Baru Sentul, yesterday afternoon.
Although he isn’t sharing the name of the candidate or his party name, Naganathan’s photos and videos of the event are available on TikTok.
Warisan candidate for Batu, P NaganathanNaganathan was seen donning a songkok (a headgear popularly worn by Malay men) and a white T-shirt with the words “Warisan” written in bold across the front.
“We want the police to take action against him. We view these as bribes to attract voters.
“This is cheating, and we want to keep the election clean and fair,” he tells the media after filing the report at the Sentul district police station.
Sabda describes this as Naganathan’s art and style of politicking.
He says the police can investigate the allegations under the Elections Act 1954 and take the necessary action against Naganathan.
Meanwhile, Pakatan Harapan’s Batu candidate P Prabakaran, when contacted about the matter, says according to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 1957/09, candidates are not allowed to even hand out food and drinks.
“After nomination day, candidates are not allowed to distribute to the voters,” he says.
Batu is the most contested seat in this general election, with 10 candidates including Harapan, BN, Perikatan Nasional, Warisan, Pejuang and Parti Rakyat Malaysia.
Harapan’s ceramah in Shah Alam cancelled due to heavy rain
8.35pm: Pakatan Harapan's Shah Alam candidate Azli Yusof cancels a ceramah scheduled at 9pm tonight amid heavy rain. His campaign team says this is to focus on preparations in case of flooding.
He earlier cancelled a 5pm walkabout at a wet market citing "weather and unfavourable conditions".
Several other Harapan candidates in the Klang Valley are announcing cancellations for their programmes tonight as well, including Rodziah Ismail (Ampang). Syahredzan Johan (Bangi) and R Ramanan (Sungai Buloh) have also cancelled their programmes.

Perak DAP modifies billboard after complaints
8.20pm: Kampar, Perak - Perak DAP “modifies” their election billboard after receiving complaints from the Election Commission.
The billboard, which initially contained a picture and the names of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, is now covered with stickers.
According to DAP Kampar candidate Chong Zhemin, the complaints came from their opponents.
“We have covered the portrait and the names with stickers.”
Candidates schedule walkabout in Tg Bungah night market
8.05pm: Bukit Bendera, Penang - Both candidates from Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan schedule a walkabout in Tanjung Bungah night market at about 6pm.
However, PN’s Hng Chee Wey reschedules his visit at the last minute.
According to him, it is to avoid congestion in the night market as both coalitions went there in big groups.
He explains that a night market is a place for business, so it’s not appropriate for the candidates to disturb those businesses by visiting successively.
He says as far as he knows, there will be a few more candidates besides himself and Harapan’s Syerleena Abdul Rashid who will come to the night market as well.
Meanwhile, the BN candidate Richie Huan arrives at the night market at about 8pm.
The voters in Bukit Bendera will see a five-cornered fight during this election. The other two are Teh Yee Cheu from PRM, and Razalif Zain, who runs as an independent.
BN candidate for Pengkalan Chepa relieved after academic qualification controversy cleared
5.33pm: BN candidate for the Pengkalan Chepa parliamentary seat in GE15, Dr Mohd Hafiezulniezam Mohd Hasdin, is relieved that questions regarding his academic qualification have been put to rest.
"Thank God, the truth has finally been revealed," Berita Harian quoted Hafiezulniezam, who's fondly known as Dr Hafiz, as saying today.
Last Saturday, he lodged a police report against claims that he was an unqualified doctor.
The report was against a social media post that alleged Hafiz did not complete his studies in university, and thus, is unqualified to use the term “Dr” before his name.
The medical Faculty of the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta had since confirmed that Hafiz was indeed its alumnus between the years 2004 and 2009, and that his degree is recognised by the university.
"I hope those who slandered me regarding my degree will apologise to me, and fix the situation if they did it for their own gain.
"I will forgive them. My mission is to only serve the people of Pengkalan Chepa if I win (the parliamentary seat) in GE15, " he reportedly told the Malay daily.
‘Syed Saddiq vs BN’s Helmy: Who’s more attractive?’
4.45pm: A group of women attending a cooking class fawn over BN’s candidate Helmy Abdul Latif in Kampung Seri Menanti.
During the event at the community hall, many women are seen approaching the 41-year-old to take selfies and photos.
Muar’s BN candidate Helmy Abdul LatifEarlier, a 37-year-old trader told Malaysiakini that she didn’t find Helmy’s competitor, Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman to be attractive.
“Some young voters think he’s handsome but that does not weigh upon me when choosing a candidate,” said the trader, who declined to be named.
Meanwhile, a group of young voters collectively said Helmy was the more attractive candidate for them.
The cooking class was organised by Muar’s Community Development Department (Kemas) where they taught the Malay crowd how to make Indian delicacies like vadai and ladoos.
Both Helmy and Sungai Balang assemblyperson Selamat Takim stopped by as part of their campaigning today, and gleefully joined in to fry vadais.
One of the programme organisers told Malaysiakini that the Indian delicacies were chosen to mark last month’s Deepavali celebrations
Federal Territories MIC chief lodges report against incumbent Batu MP
5pm: Federal Territories MIC chairperson Simon Rajah lodges a police report against Harapan's Batu candidate P Prabakaran for allegedly slandering the MIC by claiming the party had offered him RM10 million to join their fold in 2020.
According to a recording of his speech uploaded on TikTok, the incumbent Batu MP claimed he was also offered money to join Bersatu but rejected these deals because he did not want to "betray the people's mandate".
Federal Territories MIC chairperson Simon RajahSimon says even if it was true that MIC was offering cash for defections, Prabakaran was not “important enough” to attract such a lucrative offer.
“He is afraid that Tian Chua (a former PKR MP for Batu who is contesting as an independent) will get the PKR and Chinese votes, so he has to say things like this to get sympathy votes."
Simon added he is willing to retract the report if Prabakaran apologises for his "childish" move.
Incumbent Batu MP P PrabakaranHowever, Prabakaran stands by his statement and says he can furnish evidence of the offer.
Police are investigating the matter under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
‘MCA optimistic of springing a surprise in Pahang’
4.55pm: MCA is optimistic that its eight candidates are capable of springing a surprise in Pahang.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong says the eight, who mostly are new faces, are part of BN’s strategy to win over the hearts of voters and bring a breath of fresh air to the party’s leadership.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong (centre)"All candidates are chosen based on their contribution and compatibility with the local community, and as youths, they have great potential,” Bernama reported him as saying.
Wee expresses his hope that the strategy of swapping seats with Umno, which allowed MCA Indera Mahkota chief Quek Tai Seong to contest the Indera Mahkota parliamentary seat will allow BN to retake the constituency.
During the 14th general election (GE14) in 2018, MCA was given the Kuantan seat to contest while Umno contested the Indera Mahkota seat, but both candidates lost to their PKR rivals.
This GE15, the Kuantan seat will be contested by Kuantan Umno chief Ab Hamid Mohd Nazahar.
Besides Quek, MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon will stand in Raub while six other candidates are contesting various state seats.
Five of them are new faces -Wong Yap Wah in Tanah Rata, Lim Teck Hoe (Tras), Wong Tze Shiang (Mentakab), Wong Siew Mun (Bilut) and Yee Cheng Hwa (Triang) while Tee Choon Ser is contesting for the second time in Teruntum.
Polling centres in PPR Kerinchi and Kampung Pasir Baru football fields unsafe - Fahmi
4.25pm: Harapan's Lembah Pantai candidate Fahmi Fadzil is concerned over two polling centres in the constituency, which he says is at risk of flooding and security breach on polling day.
The Election Commission is erecting large tents with plywood flooring at the PPR Kerinchi and Kampung Pasir Baru football fields to turn them into two polling stations, serving about 10,000 voters in total.
This is about 10 percent of the total number of voters in the constituency, he says.
Fahmi says in the past year, heavy rains have twice flooded Kampung Pasir Baru, while repair works on a flood mitigation bund near the field are still ongoing.
"Residents, including Umno members, have told me they disagree with this field being a polling centre for these reasons," he says.
The PPR Kerinchi football field is also very dark at night and does not have secure fencing, risking safety of the ballot boxes on polling day and during the vote count, he adds.
Fahmi says the Pantai Hillpark community centre, located two kilometres away, is a better alternative and would save the field from being severely damaged, like what happened in 2018 after it was used for a government event.
The rehabilitation cost was up to RM100,000, he says, and some parts are still damaged and becomes muddy even with a slight drizzle, making it difficult for those with mobility issues to access.
Dropped Umno leaders' campaign for Khairy
4.15pm: Although their party dropped them from their seats, former ministers Noh Omar and Annuar Musa came in full force to help Khairy Jamaluddin in his mission to capture the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.
The two ousted incumbents of the Tanjong Karang and Ketereh parliamentary seats, respectively, were seen meeting voters at a supermarket in Taman Saujana Utama today.
Khairy Jamaluddin (centre), Annuar Musa (left) and Nor OmarAnnuar urges Sungai Buloh voters to recognise Khairy's good track record as a health minister in the last federal government.
"Not many ministers 'plunge' into losing areas, despite gaining a majority of tens of thousands in the seat he won in the 14th general election (GE14).
"Malaysia needs quality leaders, not those involved in corruption because the next challenge is to raise Malaysia to become a great country and this cannot be done by corrupt people," says Annuar.
Khaled didn’t help Kota Tinggi as MB, PN leader alleges
4.10pm: A former Umno assemblyperson chides party vice-president Khaled Nordin for contesting in Kota Tinggi despite allegedly ignoring the constituency when the latter served as Johor menteri besar.
Kota Tinggi PN chief Rasman Ithnain - who was BN's Sedili assemblyperson in Kota Tinggi from 2008 to 2018 - says among the issues ignored by Khaled were water supply matters and housing for second-generation Felda settlers.
Umno vice-president Noh Omar"Throughout his time as menteri besar and Johor Umno chief, he did not care about the problems of Kota Tinggi residents," he says in a statement.
Kota Tinggi is seen as a safe seat for Khaled - who was defeated in 2018 when he contested in Pasir Gudang.
During the 2022 Johor state election, BN won both state seats under Kota Tinggi, including Sedili - and received 63 percent of votes in the parliament constituency overall, compared to 32 percent by PN.
Cops hunting down vandals who damaged BN’s campaign materials in TTDI
4pm: Brickfields district police chief Amihizam Abdul Shukor says the police are on the hunt for those who vandalised BN flags and posters in Taman Tun Dr Ismail yesterday.
He tells Bernama that the vandalism was reported to have occurred at separate locations in Jalan Athinahapan junction and the Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi 1 bridge.
Police received reports regarding the incidents from the Lembah Kiara 7 BN Youth chief and opened an investigation paper under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in loss or damage - which is punishable with imprisonment for a maximum of five years or a fine, or both.
“The complainant said he was informed of the incident via a WhatsApp message and quickly went to the location and discovered that the lines used to hang the party flags were cut. He also found the posters which were put up vandalised.
“Our checks also found that there were no closed-circuit TV cameras installed at City Hall’s Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS) or from nearby houses that focused on or recorded the incidents,” says Amihizam.
You rode on ‘brand’ PKR, Rodziah scoffs at Zuraida
3.46pm: Zuraida Kamaruddin has no "brand" of her own in Ampang, says Harapan’s Ampang aspirant Rodziah Ismail.
Instead, Rodziah says Zuraida’s branding was with PKR when the latter was still part of the party.
Rodziah Ismail"The 'brand' she is talking about is what was acquired when she was with PKR. Now, the people are angry with her for betraying the party," Rodziah tells reports during a walkabout in Ampang, today.
Rodziah was responding to a recent remark by Zuraida that she is confident of retaining the seat for a fourth term as the Ampang electorate is familiar with and confident with "brand Zuraida”.
However, Rodziah says Zuraida had "betrayed" the brand when she got involved in the Sheraton Move, which led to the collapse of the Harapan government.
Incumbent Ampang MP Zuraida KamaruddinZuraida is now with Parti Bangsa Malaysia after a stint with Bersatu.
Rodziah adds while it is undeniable that Zuraida had served constituents in Ampang, the fact remains that she has betrayed the “brand”.
‘BN manifesto are not merely sweet promises’
3.40pm: BN’s manifesto for GE15 is not sweet promises made to the people but are plans and efforts to further develop Malaysia, says its deputy chairperson Mohamad Hasan.
The BN candidate for the Rembau parliamentary seat adds the formation of a government was no child’s play but has to be taken seriously to meet the needs and aspirations of the people - while providing an effective government administration.
BN deputy chairperson Mohamad Hasan"We are not a government of children as administering the country is a serious and practical matter. We (BN) have been administering the country for a long time and have the experience, hence, we know the aspects that neds attention.
"Our efforts are aimed at bolstering the people’s belief in the government for their own comfort and providing a strong and stable government," Bernama reported him as saying after the manifesto was announced by the coalition’s chairperson, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.
The manifesto features BN’s Practical Plans and Efforts (Padu) which are fresh deals for the people, containing 99 practices and means of turning Malaysia into a developed nation.
Penang DAP cancels subsidy for varsity students’ plan
3.10pm: Penang DAP cancels the offer to subsidise travel costs for varsity students to travel back for voting.
According to their legal adviser RSN Rayer, Penang DAP legal team was worried that the initiative would be misinterpreted as vote-buying, which is an offence under Sections 10 and 20 of the Election Offences Act.
Rayer is also the Harapan candidate for Jelutong parliamentary seat.
Meanwhile, Harapan’s Tanjong candidate Lim Hui Ying tells the media that they are yet to receive any related application on the matter.
Anwar: Mahathir's 'out' to split votes
3pm: Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim calls former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his party Pejuang’s participation in GE15 as a tactic to "split votes."
According to the PKR president, Mahathir is no longer relevant in the country's political landscape.
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim"Enough with (the other leaders), Mahathir, don't bother him anymore.
"He's 'out', just wants to split votes, and I would like to urge voters to not split their votes," Berita Harian quoted Anwar as saying during his ceramah in Tangkak, Johor, today.
He then urged voters in Ledang to vote for Harapan.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir MohamadAnwar, who will be contesting in the Tambun parliamentary seat in GE15, also dismisses Mahathir's claim that he has a secret pact with BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi - calling it slander.
Mahathir's Pejuang will contest 161 parliamentary and state seats in GE15.

Caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri YaakobThis will allow locals to travel to required locations to cast their ballots in GE15 on Nov 19.
Yesterday, the Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) proposed that the government declare Nov 18 a special public holiday to ease the voting process.
Ismail Sabri says the matter had been discussed before, following the dissolution of Parliament on Oct 10.
“We will study (the proposal). We discussed it after the dissolution. InsyaAllah, just wait for an important announcement from me, and maybe more,” he says.
Police probing Razman's remarks
1.35pm: Police have opened an investigation paper into allegations that Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Gunong Semanggol state seat Razman Zakaria (above) had made defamatory and malicious remarks against Pakatan Harapan during a recent speech, according to Bernama.
Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police received a report from a 32-year-old man regarding a video recording of the alleged event, which has gone viral since Sunday.
The investigation is being carried out under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he says in a statement today.
He also advises party supporters to comply with all laws and regulations and give their full cooperation to the authorities during the 15th general election, especially during the campaign.
In the meantime, Yusri says police received five reports regarding the election yesterday, with only one investigation paper opened so far.
He also says that police had approved permits for 123 political talks in the state while 19 others were held without a permit.
Muda's Cikgu Rahayu unfazed standing in BN stronghold
1pm: Muda candidate for the Tanjong Karang parliamentary seat, Siti Rahayu Baharin, is unfazed about contesting in the BN stronghold and is even optimistic that the outcome will be in her favour, according to Bernama.
Siti Rahayu or better known as Cikgu Rahayu admits that it will not be easy for Muda to capture Tanjong Karang in the 15th general election but said it can be done with a civil and earnest campaign.
"BN has a faithful following here, this is not something that is easy to overcome, but I believe that with good manners and seriousness and the values that I want to bring to Tanjong Karang, it can be done.
"I want the voters here to judge me and choose me on what I want to do for Tanjong Karang," she tells reporters after the Muda Mega Tour event last night.
Muda’s Tanjong Karang candidate Siti Rahayu BaharinCommenting on the issue of her not being a local candidate, Siti Rahayu says that it was not an obstacle for her to provide excellent service if she gets the mandate.
She says that it was a fact that many MPs who are not local residents are able to provide the best service in the constituencies they represented.
Siti Rahayu is in a five-cornered fight involving Azlan Sani Zawawi (Pejuang-Gagasan Bangsa), Zulkafperi Hanapi (PN), Habibah Mohd Yusof (BN) and independent candidate Mohd Rosni Mastol.
The Tanjong Karang seat before this was held by Noh Omar of BN for six terms, since 1995.

The Tambun Umno division chief says he hopes that voters in the parliamentary constituency will vote wisely in GE15.
Tambun Umno division chief Aminuddin Md Hanafiah"Candidates should make offers to the voters instead of discrediting people by practising politics of hate where the people will end up being the victims," he told reporters after a meeting with Tambun MCA in Chemor last night.
Aminuddin says he was focused on meeting as many voters as possible in public places and strengthened the campaign through social media.
Aminuddin is in a four-cornered fight for the Tambun parliamentary seat.

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu“I think it is something clever and hope it will only add colour during this campaign period. Although it seems like sarcasm, some of us avoid personal attacks against our opponents and so on.
“It (the billboards) provides some fun; I think it is okay,” Bernama reported Ahmad Faizal as saying at the Ceramah Kelompok PN programme in Meru Perdana last night.
A news portal recently reported that Ahmad Faizal had several “colourful billboards” around Tambun.

It was later replaced with a new one, “Dari Tambun susur keluar ke Utara, 50m” (from Tambun to the north, 50m ahead), believed to be directed at Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim who is contesting in the constituency.
Two other candidates contesting the Tambun parliamentary seat are Tambun Umno division chief Aminuddin Md Hanafiah and Abdul Rahim Tahir of Pejuang.

Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin"God willing, Perlis will be captured by PN in GE15, and if that happens, we will have a PAS leader leading the state.

Both Perlis and Pahang are currently held by BN.
Muhyiddin says PN has no issues letting PAS leaders administer Perlis and Pahang, given their "excellent track record" in states the Islamist party already leads - namely Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan MatThe incumbent Pagoh MP also urges Umno supporters to consider speculations that the nationalist party may work with (Pakatan Harapan chairperson) Anwar Ibrahim to form a government, post-GE15.
"BN has admitted that it would not win enough seats to form a government, and (it's) willing to work with anyone to reach the goal.
"I have heard an audio recording between BN and Harapan (leaders), that Anwar will become the prime minister, and (Umno president Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) will become his deputy. Also, in Harapan, there is DAP."

BN communications director Shamsul Anuar NasarahThe rift between Mahathir and his then deputy PM Anwar came to a head in 1998, when the latter was arrested and later conviction of sodomy and corruption.
Briefly reconciled in GE14 and in the 22 months that Harapan was in federal power, they are now back on opposing sides.
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad (right) with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim"It is because of these two that Malaysia faces many problems, and we will continue to lose out if we keep giving them a chance.

The Segambut aspirant then urged her opponents to stop playing "dirty, disgusting" political games, and compete in a clean and fair manner.
The country will go to the polls on Nov 19.
Yeoh later told reporters that residents alerted her of the incidents, which happened along Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi and Jalan Leong Yew Koh, within 2.5 kilometre radius of each other.
Expected to lodge a police report on the matter today, Yeoh said the move will likely "backfire". - Mkini
