Date For Najib Anwar Debate To Be Announced On Sunday

The two camps of Najib Razak and Anwar Ibrahim have differing views on when the debate should be held.PETALING JAYA: The date of a public debate between former prime minister Najib Razak and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim over the Sapura Energy Bhd issue has been finalised.
Selangor Barisan Nasional information chief Isham Jalil said more details would be revealed at a press conference he will host with PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil on Sunday.
“We finalised the date today. I spoke to Fahmi just now, and we are going to make a joint press conference… I think on Sunday,” he told FMT when asked for details on the highly-anticipated debate.
“We will reveal more details then. After the press conference, we will open the floor for the media to ask questions.”
He said he was uncertain whether Anwar and Najib would attend the press conference, during which issues such as media partners and moderators are expected to be announced.
Anwar previously said all media should be allowed to cover the debate, referring to Najib’s camp saying that it was keen on having the debate aired live on Malaysia Gazette.
Both sides have had different opinions on when the debate should be held.
While Anwar wanted it to take place as soon as possible, Isham previously said it would be best if the debate was held after Ramadan.
Earlier, Najib accepted Rafizi Ramli’s invitation for a debate on Sapura Energy on April 3 and told the PKR vice-president to invite Anwar to join too.
Sapura Energy, a government-linked company (GLC), had announced a loss of RM8.9 billion last year, which Najib said was the largest for any Malaysian GLC in history.
Najib has been pushing for a bailout of the company, while Rafizi is against the idea. - FMT
