Dap Mp Alleges Inaction Over Criminal Cases Involving Cops
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng today revealed that there were about 15 police officers allegedly involved in bribery, and that action had yet to be taken against some of them even though reports were lodged last year
In view of this, the DAP lawmaker lodged a report with MACC at its Kuala Lumpur office today, calling for investigation into possible wrongdoings within the police force
At the press conference outside the MACC building, Lim said that among the 15 cops, there are three cases involving police impunity and bribery
In the first case where a teenage girl was allegedly raped by a police officer in Sarikei last October, Lim said action had yet to be taken against the alleged rapist even though the victim's family had lodged a report
“I heard that the suspect's colleague had approached the family, advising them to close the case as the suspect will retire soon,” he claimed
The second case, Lim said, was the suspension of seven police officers over RM7.9 million that had gone missing following a raid at a condominium in Kuala Lumpur last September
He claimed that the case involved a female top cop, and that according to the victim, there has been no update on investigations
“My question is, are these suspects still walking free, armed with a gun, despite being accused of such crimes like rape and robbery? “Or the investigations have decided that they (accused police officers) are not guilty? Did the victims made false report? I don’t know...I hope MACC can investigate and shed light on the matter," he said
Bribery within Bukit AmanLim also alleged that police officers need to pay under-table money to certain individuals in Bukit Aman if they wanted a job promotion.
“I received a lot of complaints (saying) that they have to pay in order to get promotion
“But I can't investigate... I cannot simply walk in to Bukit Aman to check. I hope MACC will look into this matter,” he said
Lim said that the allegations came from various sources including from within the police force as well as members of the public and that he will give the names to MACC for further investigation. - Mkini
