Daim S Widow Reveals Unseen Loyalty And Betrayal In Anwar Daim Relationship

IN A gripping revelation from the Keluar Sekejap podcast, Tun Daim Zainuddin’s widow, Toh Puan Naimah Khalid, unveils the dramatic highs and lows of Daim’s bond with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
It was a tale of loyalty, heartbreak, and legal woes. The saga peaks during Anwar’s imprisonment amid sodomy charges. Desperate for counsel, Anwar sought Daim’s help while he was in jail.
Since only family members and lawyers can visit prisoners, Daim dusted off his 1970s lawyer suit to reinstate his practicing license. This allowed him to visit the jailed leader multiple times.
“The last time he wore the suit was in the 70s but when Anwar wanted to see him, he did that, became a lawyer to be able to enter the prison to meet with Anwar,” Naimah recounts, highlighting Daim’s unwavering support.
Post-2018, after BN’s fall, the duo reconciled amid a political thaw with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Anwar frequented Daim’s home, lingering late after meals. In a pivotal moment, Anwar confided, “When I become Prime Minister, don’t go anywhere. I want you as my economic advisor.”
Yet, the drama turns tragic in 2022. As PM, Anwar’s administration unleashed what many see as a witch hunt. It was a relentless legal probes against Daim, persisting even after his death in January 2024.
Heartbroken, Daim viewed it as a stab from a friend he’d championed, including aiding Anwar’s battles against Tun Ghafar Baba.
“This was my friend. Why is he saying this about me?” Daim lamented, embodying his stoic mantra: don’t complain, don’t explain.— Focus Malaysia
