KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed claims by a retired Thai general regarding the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal, saying that even the Thai Prime Minister has never questioned Malaysia’s role.
The Prime Minister said as the chairman of Asean, he was still in close touch with his counterparts from Thailand and Cambodia.
"I have ordered the Armed Forces Chief to get the latest report so we can assist them further," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) during the Prime Minister's Question Time Tuesday (Nov 11).
Shahidan had asked the Prime Minister to provide the latest information to respond to the allegations made by the retired Thai general regarding the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal, as it has been picked up by international media.
Thailand, on Monday (Nov 10), said it was suspending the implementation of its "peace deal" with neighbouring Cambodia over a disputed border - just two weeks after United States (US) President Donald Trump witnessed the signing.
Thailand's announcement came after soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion near the Cambodian border in Sisaket province, a government spokesman said.

"If you ask me, I am praying that it will be resolved.
"Why do you want to celebrate if they continue to fight, just to show that the Malaysian PM failed?
"This is a harmful approach," said Anwar.
It was reported that a video featuring the retired Thai general accusing Anwar of being a traitor who had caused Thailand economic losses through the peace agreement, claiming it had allowed the US to interfere in the region particularly in Thailand. - Star
