Part of the large crowd, mainly comprising senior citizens, waiting to receive their booster shot in SS6, Kelana Jaya today.PETALING JAYA: The crowding and long queues outside an off-site vaccination centre in SS6, Kelana Jaya here this morning was caused by people turning up late for their appointments to receive the third Covid-19 vaccine dose.
ProtectHealth Corp’s Dr Hue Hwa Ching said besides people being late, many were also turning up without appointments, unaware that walk-ins are no longer accepted.
Speaking to FMT, she said the public appeared to be unaware that walk-ins are no longer allowed from today but had still insisted on getting their booster shot.
Hue said those who had turned up without an appointment were registered on a backup list. Those on the list were then called to take up the spots of those who had missed their appointments.
She said those with appointments but arrived too early or late, were told to wait in their cars or nearby until they were called to come to the centre.
Earlier today, FMT reported that nearly all those queuing up at the off-site vaccination centre in Kelana Jaya today were senior citizens who had to wait for at least an hour outside shoplots or under the hot sun for their booster shot.
They were also seen not observing proper physical distancing, thus raising concerns about a spread in Covid-19 among those in the queue.
ProtectHealth Corp, the government agency which manages the immunisation programme in partnership with private medical centres and general practitioners, had decided yesterday that walk-ins will no longer be entertained due to overcrowding and long queues. - FMT
