Cops Probing Politician Over Sensitive Remarks During Nenggiri Ceramah
Police have opened an investigation paper on a video showing a political leader allegedly making sensitive remarks during a ceramah in Gua Musang recently.
(NST) – Kelantan police chief, Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the investigation was carried out following a report lodged by a 29-year-old Gua Musang Umno committee member on Aug 3.
Zaki added that the case is being investigated under Section Section 4 A of the Election Offences Act 1954, Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988.
“So far, we only opened one investigation paper related to a ceramah organised by a political party.
“The leader has given information that may cause wrong perception among the audiences,” he told reporters after launching the new Kok Lanas police station here today.
The New Straits Times has reached out to the said party leader for comments
A statement by a political party leader recently went viral after he claimed that thousands of land grants approved by the Kelantan government were not resolved by the South Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar).
On a related matter, Zaki said the recent nomination day for the Nenggiri by-election went smoothly without any incidents.
“Police hope this peaceful situation will remain until the polling day on Aug 17.
“Both political parties have shown maturity in their campaigns for the by-election,” he said.
Zaki nevertheless said police will continue to monitor the situation throughout the campaigning period for the by-election.
The Aug 17 Nenggiri by-election is seeing a straight fight between Barisan Nasional candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri and Mohd Rizwadi Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.
