Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) police headquarters had opened an inquiry paper for a missing person in connection with the case.
He also said that police were in contact with the British high commission to obtain further details about the teenager, David Balisong.
“We will work closely with the embassy and all relevant agencies in efforts to locate him,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.
Immigration department director-general Zakaria Shaaban also confirmed that Balisong had entered Malaysia on June 7, with entry records showing the teen had arrived at KLIA at 8.29am.
Balisong, an A-level student from Cheadle, Greater Manchester, left home early on June 6, telling his brother he had school matters to deal with.
Instead, he flew alone from Manchester to Kuala Lumpur. He has since switched off his phone and is not responding to emails.
Born in the UK to Filipino parents, Balisong has no known ties to Malaysia. He left with 1,200 pounds (RM6,900) in his bank account and was granted a 90-day visa upon arrival.
He was in the middle of his A-level and had aspired to study computer science at Manchester University, with dreams of working for Nasa.
The Balisong family has launched a donation drive to help fund their journey to Malaysia to search for David. - FMT
