THE up-and-coming Muslim convert preacher who was against the Agong and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim having their much-praised asam pedas feast at a famous Johor Bahru (JB) Chinese restaurant has extended his apology following revelation that it did possess a halal certification.
Looked up to as a ‘young ustaz’ by millennial Muslims on TikTok, Rayyan Wong admitted to not having made adequate verification on the content of his minute-long clip on TikTok barely 24 hours earlier which has since been taken down.
“I’m sorry for having reprimanded (menegur) TMJ (Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim) and PMX for eating at an eatery which was suspected as not halal when in fact it possesses halal certification,” he noted on his latest clip last night (Dec 15).

“Therefore, I’ve deleted my earlier video which had since attracted 2 million views after many people reprimanded me for my oversight.
“I shall be more careful in the future by thoroughly studying the content (of his social media materials first before posting them) to avoid spreading slanders … all the good comes from Allah and the foolishness is my own doing.”
Added the JB-born accounting graduate from Tunku Abdul Rahman University: “Please don’t criticiae me again after this. I have apologised for spreading slander, hence it’s up to you whether to  accept my apology or otherwise.”
For context, the 22-year-old Rayyan who was born Wong Yong Heng before he discovered the light on July 26, 2021 had over the weakened stated that that he was compelled as to point out to fellow Muslims that it goes against Islamic teachings for frequenting a non-halal establishment.

The 22-year-old winner of this year’s PAS Youth Chief Award who was widely applauded over TikTok by his fan base for daring to speak up went on to say that he harboured no intention to insult both “TMJ (Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim) and PMX but such is the foundation that need to be known as a Muslim”.
However, a review by foodie site Wheree which Rayyan cited on his latest TikTok post claims that the said restaurant Kedai Makanan Jadi Baru (Botak) “prides itself on serving halal food, confirmed by the presence of JAKIM (Department of Islamic Development Malaysia) halal certification”.

Nevertheless, a check at Rayyan’s latest TikTok post showed that a few defiant commenters were questioning “the unavailability of the said restaurant in JAKIM’s website”.

However, one netizen who had stayed upstairs of the Botak shop from 2005-2009 claimed that the latter “does possess halal certification from the time of (the late) Sultan Iskandar (father of Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia).”

While some fans hailed Rayyan for his bravery to apologise for his mistake, Madani government keyboard warriors have been hurling brickbats of sorts at him, the most notable being “to sue him kaw-kaw”.
In fact, a post by #Anwar_My_PMX (@AmenoWorld) on the X platform wondered how to get those who had inappropriately criticised “the Agong and PMX to apologise one by one” while that by Adam Yusuf (@adamyusuf88) questioned why the opposition front has been silent when its own leaders “eat at Chinese shops without halal logo”.


A seemingly Chinese pro-Pakatan Harapan social media influencer went on to clarify that the Chinese texts which Rayyan claimed as “non-halal restaurant” simply mean “wishing you a successful/prosperous business (大吉大利) and “expand your authority” (大展宏图) which is somehow a Johor state slogan.

“Hope the PDRM (Royal Malaysia Police) can take strict action against those who defame the Malay rulers! Daulat Tuanku!” added the digital creator. – Focus Malaysia
