Cabinet Reshuffle Mca Should Not Tell Pm How To Do His Job Loke
PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Stop trying to teach the prime minister how to do his job, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said on MCA's cabinet reshuffle suggestions.
The DAP secretary-general pointed out that a cabinet reshuffle is solely up to the prime minister and this should be respected.
"I think we shouldn't poke our nose around and try to tell the prime minister what he should do.
"Even if there will be a cabinet reshuffle, it is the prime minister's prerogative.
"But up till today, the prime minister did not say anything about this. Even in today's cabinet meeting, he did not mention anything about it," he told reporters in Telemong, Bentong last night.
Loke (above) was there to campaign for BN candidate Amizar Abu Adam, who is running for the Pelangai state seat against Perikatan Nasional's Kasim Samat and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli.
He was asked to comment on MCA spokesperson Mike Chong’s statement two days ago, where the party suggested Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim drop some cabinet members amid speculation of an impending cabinet reshuffle.
MCA spokesperson Mike ChongAmong others, Chong suggested that Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming should be removed for continuing to act like an opposition politician even though he is now a government minister.
MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon also questioned Nga's performance, demanding that the latter answer 10 questions regarding his ministerial works.
This drew the ire of Nga's political secretary Chiong Yoke Kong, who in turn urged MCA to quit the government.
To this, Loke regarded Chiong's remark as a personal opinion and said that DAP stands by the spirit of the unity government.
The transport minister also urged all parties within the unity government to give their commitment to ensure the stability of the government and Malaysia's politics.
Refrain from quoting holy books
On a recent brouhaha involving Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee for allegedly making his own interpretation of a Quranic verse, Loke said DAP took the incident as a lesson.
Ipoh Timor MP Howard LeeThe DAP secretary-general has advised all party leaders to be more careful in the future and refrain from quoting any holy book in their speeches.
"We should focus on our job, policies and performance and ensure that we can deliver good service to the people.
"These will ensure that we will get support from voters.
"The incident served as a lesson. I believe Lee has also received advice from many including the Islamic affairs minister, and he has issued a public apology," Loke said.
However, Loke believed that PN would continue to exploit the incident during the Pelangai polls.
"But I want to say that this election is not to elect Lee. This by-election is to choose a candidate from BN and Umno, to take the place of its former assemblyperson.
"So I hope Pelangai voters will continue to give their support to the candidate representing the unity government," he added.
