Adly To Pas We Should Bring Non Muslims Closer To Islam Not Push Them Away
PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari believes that PAS should not have reacted harshly in the case of Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee, who was recently criticised by the Islamist party for citing a Quranic verse in his argument.
He said Muslims should work towards getting non-Muslims closer to the religion instead of pushing them away.
“Issues relating to 3Rs (race, religion, and royalty) should not be politicised.
“As Muslims, we should work towards attracting non-Muslims to be closer to Islam, not push them away from our religion.
“If they do something wrong, what we should do is give them advice. This is the value of Islam that we should portray,” he told Malaysiakini when met at Kampung Bukit Gajah in Pelangai, Pahang earlier today.
Adly was asked to comment on a recent brouhaha after Lee, who is a DAP central executive committee member, allegedly made his own interpretation of a Quranic verse on TikTok.
The incident had been used as political ammo by PAS in its campaigns during the ongoing Pelangai state seat by-election.
On this, Adly, who is a former PAS member, also criticised the party for using the issue to try to gain support from voters.
Political parties, he stressed, should focus on offering better values to the people instead of touching on the 3Rs.
Adly said some of the DAP leaders today had learned about the Quran from PAS when the parties were working together.
“When DAP was working with PAS they were allowed to, so why now, when they are no longer working together, PAS wants to make an issue?” he added.
Minister appointment is PM’s discretion
Meanwhile, Adly was also asked on speculation that he might be appointed as the next domestic trade and cost of living minister, a position left vacant after its incumbent Salahuddin Ayub died in July.
On this, the Alor Gajah MP said he would leave the matter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu to decide.
“I have no comment on this, (because) this matter is the prime minister’s prerogative.
“It is up to the PM. We also leave it to the party president and the PM to decide,” he said. - Mkini
