Bung The Failure Not Grs Says Deputy Sec Gen
Armizan Mohd Ali says the Sabah Umno chief failed to resolve the state's water woes during his time as works minister.
GRS deputy secretary-general Armizan Mohd Ali said Umno’s Bung Moktar Radin should not be pointing fingers at anyone.PETALING JAYA: A Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) leader has dismissed repeated claims by Umno’s Bung Moktar Radin that the coalition is the most ineffective state government, saying the former deputy chief minister was a failure himself during his time in the state works ministry
Armizan Mohd Ali said that Bung, who was dropped from Hajiji Noor’s Cabinet following a failed coup in 2023, had failed to resolve the state’s water woes.
He said the Sabah Umno chief, throughout his two years in office, failed to roll out any major projects to ensure consistent water supply in areas such as Tawau.
In fact, construction of the Cinta Mata 2 water treatment plant and upgrading works at the Kogopon water treatment plant in Papar only commenced after Bung was out of the state government, he said.
“We lost two years in terms of resolving issues linked to the works ministry because Bung failed as a minister,” the GRS deputy secretary-general told reporters in Tawau last night.
“Maybe it is a blessing in disguise that an ineffective minister has left the state government, which now allows us to implement projects to resolve the water woes and power outages in the state.”
Bung had repeated the claim about GRS’s performance when announcing Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidates for the Nov 29 state election.
In 2024, he labelled the GRS government the most ineffective government in the state’s history, citing a failure to deliver on its claims of creating thousands of job opportunities and the fact that Sabah remained one of the poorest states in Malaysia.
Armizan said it was also unfair for Bung to blame GRS for the power outages as the federal government, via Tenaga Nasional Bhd, held a majority stake in Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), the sole utility company in Sabah and Labuan.
He said Bung’s latest attack on GRS could be due to a lack of “X-factor” in BN’s candidates.
He also referred Bung to the GRS manifesto where the coalition had listed its achievements.
“As a former works minister, Bung should not be pointing fingers at anyone. The reality is, he is a failed minister, and his successor was able to roll out the projects,” he said, referring to caretaker deputy chief minister Shahelmey Yahya.
He said Bung had also pushed for two Umno division chiefs on the board of SESB.
