Bung Sabahans Want Completion Of Projects Not Just Announcements
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Bung Moktar Radin has reminded his fellow leaders that the people of Sabah want projects to be completed not just announced.
Speaking at a time when ex-prime ministers Muhyiddin Yassin and Najib Abdul Razak are engaged in a war of words over the Sabah leadership, Bung said the trust given by the people to the state government must be valued with its elected representatives working hard to develop the state.
“The people place high confidence and aspirations on the state government,” he said in a statement yesterday, according to Bernama.
“As such, we must value the trust with a determination to work to develop Sabah by forgetting all differences for the sake of fulfilling the well-being and welfare of the people,” added Bung who is the Sabah Umno chief.
According to him, a new approach to meet the aspirations of the people must be done by leaving behind old practices such as merely announcing a project and allocation but lacking the commitment to implement it.
“The people are now matured in their thinking and they evaluate the actions of the government and the elected representatives.
“They are no longer swayed with announcements of how much of allocation is given to implement a development project but what they are hoping for is how those projects can be expedited,” he said.
Bung, who is also the Lamag state assemblyperson and Kinabatangan MP, said Sabah is still far behind in infrastructure, health, and education development and these issues must be given attention by the federal government.
The verbal wars between Muhyiddin and Najib have seen the former accusing the latter of not being able to comprehend his remarks.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Bersatu president Muhyiddin said he floated Hajiji Noor's name as a Sabah chief minister candidate only as a suggestion.
Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor"Maybe Najib could not understand the language I used. When I said Umno did not name any candidate for the Sabah chief minister post until the end of the election campaign period, that is a fact.
"You can't expect me to wait until we finish campaigning before naming a candidate.
"And when I announced Hajiji's name as Perikatan Nasional candidate for Sulaman state seat, I floated the idea that 'in case our friends in Perikatan Nasional, BN and others agree to this, Hajiji would be our best bet to offer as a candidate to lead Sabah'."
Muhyiddin said this after Najib accused Bersatu of causing the failure of the Muafakat Nasional political pact.
Najib claimed Bersatu betrayed Umno in the Sabah state election and criticised Muhyiddin, who was the prime minister when Sabah went to the snap polls, for naming Hajiji as PN's choice to be Sabah chief minister.
In the election, Umno won 14 seats while Bersatu won 11. - Mkini
