Bn Pas Clash On Sabah Cm Candidate
SABAH POLLS | BN and PAS appeared not to be on the same page as far as the next Sabah chief minister candidate is concerned
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said it is up to Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to decide the next chief minister while BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he wants the representatives who win the state polls to decide among themselves
This is despite both leaders in the Muafakat Nasional pact shared the same stage at a ceramah in Putatan to campaign for BN candidates tonight
"Let's wait until the polls are over. Let the prime minister decide
"PAS is not participating on the polls. So, let those who take part in the polls decide," said Tuan Ibrahim briefly when met by reporters before leaving to attend another event
The environment and water minister was asked if PAS wants Sabah BN chief Bung Moktar Radin or Sabah Bersatu chief Hajiji Noor as the next chief minister
Meanwhile, Zahid, in what appears to be addressing Bersatu Supreme Council member Azmin Ali who pushed for Hajiji as the chief minister, said the party that win most seats will be qualified to become the chief minister
"Don't play with the sensitive issue. BN has PBRS and MCA and other partners such as Bersatu and PN
"Don't talk about the chief minister candidate, let us win the polls first
"Remember, those who win the most seats qualify to become the chief minister," Zahid said
Muhyiddin had first touted Hajiji as a potential chief ministerial candidate for Sabah during nomination day on Sept 12 but acknowledged that it would need the support of PN's allies
Subsequently, Zahid said this will only be decided later on
When met by the media later, Zahid cautioned his counterpart in PN not to be overconfident as the opposition has yet to win in Sabah polls
"When we have 37 seats, then we are qualified to form the new government
"Don't be overconfident, the people are looking (at us). If we are overconfidence, people will reject us
"We will discuss after we win, so we won't fall into a trap set up by our political rivals," he said
He is also confident that Sabah will have the best chief minister after the opposition win
"We will let those who win the state polls to decide (the new chief minister). I hope this would be the new normal in Sabah that will be respected by all," he concluded. - Mkini
