Bersatu Should Be Renamed Berpecah Quips Dap Youth Chief
A PKR Youth leader meanwhile urges Wan Saiful Wan Jan to resign as Tasek Gelugor MP after losing the trust of the Bersatu leadership.
DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong questioned Bersatu’s ability to lead the country when the party is so divided. (Facebook pic)PETALING JAYA: DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong took a dig at Bersatu today following news that it had sacked Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan, quipping that the party should be renamed “Berpecah”, which means divided in Bahasa Melayu
Woo also questioned the ability of Bersatu, whose president Muhyiddin Yassin is at the helm of Perikatan Nasional (PN), to lead the country given its internal divisions.
He likewise took aim at MCA and MIC, which were said to be considering PN membership, suggesting that the two Barisan Nasional parties ditch their plans for now.
“Amid the grapple within PN to become its prime ministerial candidate, Bersatu (which means united) has now become Berpecah. Can such a party be entrusted with leading the country?
“For MCA and MIC, they can pull the handbrake on their marriage with PN first. They’re better off remaining in the current government framework for the sake of positions and ranks,” he said in a statement.
Wan Saiful and four Bersatu division chiefs were booted from the party for violating its constitution and code of conduct.
Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal was meanwhile suspended until after the next Bersatu election in 2027.
The move was reportedly due to allegations of their involvement in a “statutory declaration movement” aimed at toppling Muhyiddin as Bersatu president, and their alleged role in a recent commotion during an official event.
Resign as MP, Wan Saiful told
Separately, Penang PKR Youth chief Zakwan Mustafa Kamal urged Wan Saiful to resign as Tasek Gelugor MP to trigger a by-election and return the mandate to the people.
Zakwan said the Bersatu leadership had clearly lost confidence in the integrity of the first-term MP, and that anyone sacked for disciplinary or credibility issues did not deserve to continue serving as an MP.
He also noted that Wan Saiful was still standing trial on corruption and money laundering charges linked to the Jana Wibawa project.
“The people of Tasek Gelugor deserve an MP who is clean, has integrity and is focused on championing the people’s interests.
“The most honourable thing Wan Saiful can do is to vacate his seat and make way for a by-election to allow the people to renew their mandate through a fair democratic process,” Zakwan said in a statement. - FMT
