Battling Resignation Calls Muhyiddin Slams Ph Over Failed Reform Agenda

BERSATU president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin used the party’s eighth annual general assembly to deliver a dual message — a stinging rebuke of the Unity Government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and a warning against internal moves to unseat him.
Muhyiddin accused the government of betraying reform promises while burdening Malaysians with subsidy cuts, tax hikes, and new levies that have driven up living costs.
He said rising economic pressures, poor governance, and alleged political interference in graft cases had eroded public confidence.
“Subsidies were abolished, tax rates increased, the scope of taxes expanded, and new taxes introduced, causing the prices of goods and services to soar,” he said at the recent Bersatu’s 2025 Annual General Assembly in Shah Alam.
“The people are increasingly burdened. This is truly a government that does not care about the people’s plight,” he added.
But his policy speech also turned inward when Muhyiddin alleged that certain members were collecting signatures to remove him as president.
The claim sparked commotion on the assembly floor, and during a scuffle that broke out in one section some were shouting “letak jawatan, Muhyiddin.”
This sparked rival groups to counter with louder cries of “Hidup Tan Sri!” forcing the Armada Brigade to step in in an attempt to restore order.
Pressing on, Muhyiddin reminded delegates that attempts to unseat leaders through signature campaigns were a direct violation of Bersatu’s constitution.
He stressed that leadership changes must adhere to due process, warning that if the president could be toppled this way, every other leader could just as easily face the same fate.
The uproar follows the circulation of a poison pen letter accusing deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin of plotting against Muhyiddin.
The letter, spread via WhatsApp, has deepened rifts within the party as it navigates internal turmoil and external political challenges. — Focus Malaysia
