Avoid Klcc Area Igp Advises Anti Trump Protesters
Police have urged groups that want to rally against US President Donald Trump to avoid holding protests near the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), where the 47th Asean Summit will be held next week.
Citing public safety issues and the country's image, Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail reportedly offered the protesters alternative venues in the city centre, such as Padang Merbok.
"We are continuously engaging with the NGOs and the parties involved to advise them not to hold the protest near KLCC, as it involves the image of our country and public safety," the New Straits Times quoted him as saying during a dry run for the summit at KLCC this morning.
According to Khalid, police want to ensure that any gathering is carried out peacefully and to prevent any untoward incident or provocation.
ADSThe Asean Summit, to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28, will see the participation of state leaders from its member nations and Asean key dialogue partners, including China, Japan, India and the US.

Trump, who has been under heavy criticism for his role in enabling Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, has confirmed he will be attending the event and is expected to arrive in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.
Many groups have announced that they would hold demonstrations against Trump during the summit.
This included the Palestinian liberation advocacy group Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia, which said it would hold a joint protest with more than 23 partner organisations on Sunday, to express its opposition to Trump’s presence at the event. - Mkini
