The high-profile regional meeting, to be attended by South-east Asian leaders and international delegates, will run from October 24 to 26 and coincide with several related summits.
“Show the world that Malaysia is a peaceful, sovereign and mature nation in managing major international events,” he said in a statement.
Razarudin said police have implemented proactive steps including intelligence gathering, continuous monitoring and the deployment of special teams at strategic locations throughout the summit period.
He also reminded Malaysians to remain law-abiding, responsible and respectful throughout the summit, urging the public to avoid spreading false information or engaging in any acts that could threaten public order.
He also advised the public to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with police, especially around the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Putrajaya and other areas where road closures and traffic controls will be in place.
Razarudin said police presence will be heightened to ensure safety for delegates and the public, and encouraged Malaysians to immediately report any suspicious activities to authorities.
The summit, hosted by Malaysia as this year’s Asean chair, comes amid planned protests by critics of United States president Donald Trump, who is expected to attend the meetings as part of his Asian tour.
