Anti Graft Rally Organisers Submit Notice To Cops
Organisers of the upcoming anti-corruption rally in Kuala Lumpur have submitted a notice to the police.
This is a requirement under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, which provides that assembly organisers must notify authorities five days ahead of the event.
Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah stressed that its student-led movement is free of any political influence.
“We invite both the rakyat and students to join us in this important cause for the future of our nation,” it said in a statement today.
On Thursday, Malaysiakini reported that the secretariat will organise the rally to demand swift action against all politicians involved in corruption cases, transparent probes into all graft allegations, and for all political leaders to affirm their commitment towards ending corruption.
“Is the government blind or deaf to the people’s voices? Or is the opposition even more foolish by using corruption as mere political capital?
“We are taking to the streets because that is the only way the people’s voices can be heard.
“Recently, the prime minister himself advised that the youth should not be busy defending corrupt leaders. So, here we take up the call,” it said.
Pointing to Malaysiakini’s recent exposé of the corruption scandal in Sabah implicating several state assemblypersons, it expressed disappointment on how the matter has been swept under the carpet.
The rally will take place at 2.30pm in front of the Sogo shopping mall and participants will march to Dataran Merdeka. - Mkini
