Annuar Hopes Opposition Will Cooperate For Stability
Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa has expressed hope that opposition MPs will continue to "cooperate" with Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to ensure political stability.
However, he said that this form of cooperation, if extended, would not be for a long time.
"Stability ensures that the government can function. When the time comes, which is not long now, when we feel it is time for a general election, it will be held immediately," Annuar told reporters at Parliament today.
He reiterated that Pakatan Harapan's confidence-and-supply agreement with the government does not have an expiry date.
The Ketereh MP said the confusion over an "expiry date" stemmed from a clause in the agreement which stated that Ismail Sabri must not dissolve Parliament before July 31 this year.
He added that it was up to the signatories of the agreement to decide on further amendments.
Previously, Umno's leadership said the party's position was that the confidence-and-supply agreement would end on July 31.
Annuar’s comments today were in response to a sarcastic suggestion by his deputy minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin today.
Zahidi suggested that either Annuar (above) or PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan be made deputy prime minister.
Zahidi, who is also Annuar's fellow party member in Umno, said this as part of his recent comments about Bersatu lobbying for the deputy prime minister’s position.
Both Annuar and Takiyuddin were said to be witnesses of a "Memorandum of Agreement" between Perikatan Nasional and Ismail Sabri which purportedly contained details of cabinet appointments. - Mkini
