Cutting Salaries Will Serve As Lesson For Ministers Says Muda

Muda secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi (centre) says the party will hold a bigger rally if their demands to reduce the prices of goods are not met.KUALA LUMPUR: Muda has defended a call for ministers’ salaries to be reduced in light of the current high inflation, saying it would serve as a lesson for failing to tackle the rising prices of goods.
“It would probably not solve the issue but it is enough to serve as a lesson on how the people are struggling right now with the rising cost of goods,” party secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi said.
He was responding to remarks by communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa, who dismissed such calls last night.
Amir was speaking to reporters after having his statement recorded, together with four other party leaders and activists, at Dang Wangi district police headquarters for taking part in the “Turun Malaysia” rally over the weekend to protest the rising cost of living.

The other four were deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz; vice-president Dr Thanussha Francis Xavier; Perak chief Mutalib Uthman and co-founder Dr Mathen Nair.
Police also recorded a statement from party member Atiqah Umairah.
Nine others, including Undi18 founder Qyira Yusri, Suaram executive director Sevan Doraisamy, and a representative of a students’ movement coalition, Rafiq Shamir, were also called in to have their statements taken.
Yesterday, Annuar, who heads an anti-inflation task force, said there was no assurance that slashing the salaries of ministers would help reduce inflation.
He also challenged those who made such proposals to identify any country that had employed such a tactic to manage inflation.
Regarding the protest, Amir said Muda was not cowed by the action of the authorities.
He vowed to organise a bigger rally if the government did not fulfil their demands, including reducing the price of goods and maintaining subsidies, among others. - FMT
