Ampang Pkr Branch Polls Result Overturned Due To Vote Buying
PKR’s Ampang branch will reportedly redo its election next week after the new chief, Daing Muhammad Reduan Bachok, was found to be involved in “vote-buying”.
According to The Malaysian Insight, the party’s election committee chairperson Zaliha Mustafa said Daing Reduan’s win has been invalidated when an investigating committee uncovered these violations that occurred during campaigning.
An investigation committee was set up following complaints about ethical violations during the campaign period.
“The committee upholds the panel’s findings that you should be deprived of your candidacy for the post of branch head,” she was quoted as saying in a letter addressed to Daing Reduan.
Daing Reduan had allegedly violated a clause in the party’s election code of ethics in relation to “money politics”.
In a notice to PKR Ampang branch members, Zaliha said that the re-election would be on June 29 between 12pm and 8pm at the Datuk Ahmad Razali Hall, Kg Baru Ampang.
Daing Redzuan (942 votes) beat out both actor Hans Isaac (609) and rapper Altimet@Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman (589) to win in Ampang.
Daing Reduan was suspended from PKR in 2020 pending a Kota Kinabalu court decision on his alleged assault against then PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli in 2018.
Rafizi has been elected as deputy president in the recent party polls.
The PKR Ampang branch head post was held from 2008-2018 by the party’s local MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, who had since February 2020 defected from the party in the Sheraton Move political coup. - Mkini
