Agong Grants Audience To Opposition S Committee To End Emergency
The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has granted his consent for an ad-hoc committee appealing for the end of the emergency to have an audience with him.
According to a source close to the committee, a letter from Istana Negara was sent this morning to Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad, who is the chairperson for the Committee to End Emergency.
The letter dated today stated that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has agreed to meet the committee for it to submit its memorandum.
It will be held at a date and time that will be determined later.
In a media statement released this afternoon, Khalid confirmed the matter and expressed hope that the event would be held soon.
"Although a date has yet to be determined, we are confident that it would be set as soon as possible to allow us to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to deliver our petition. The negative effects of this state of emergency are becoming more evident day by day.
"The letter from Istana Negara was signed by Datuk Nazim bin Mohd Alim, who is the senior private secretary to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
"As the chairperson of the committee, I would like to extend our utmost appreciation to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his concern," he said.
Last month, the ad hoc committee had launched a petition to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to end the emergency.
The committee includes opposition MPs from Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), Amanah, Warisan, DAP, PKR, and the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), as well as NGOs. - Mkini
