The special committee comprises (from left) Attorney-General Idrus Harun, IGP Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid and MACC chief Azam Baki.PETALING JAYA: Attorney-general (AG) Idrus Harun has been appointed to chair a special committee to probe allegations that public services department (JPA) director-general Shafiq Abdullah had publicly berated an immigration officer in KLIA last week.
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali said the special committee also includes Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, Auditor-General Nik Azman Nik Abdul Majid, and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Azam Baki.
“This committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough investigation (on the allegations) in order to ensure justice is served,” Zuki said in a statement.
“The outcome and the recommendations of this investigation will be presented to the prime minister for further consideration.”

The statement came after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said yesterday that the Cabinet had agreed to form a special committee to probe the allegations.
Ismail also said he believed that it would not be difficult to verify the truth as a video of the alleged incident was available.
Last Wednesday, the Immigration Services Union of Peninsular Malaysia (KPISM) demanded a public apology from Shafiq for allegedly berating James Lee, an immigration officer using strong language.
However, JPA in a statement denied that Shafiq committed such an act, claiming that the latter rightly reprimanded Lee over non-compliance with procedures after he failed to check the director-general and his delegation’s travel documents and passports.
When reports of the incident first broke, home minister Hamzah Zainudin responded by saying that he had instructed immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud to investigate the allegations. - FMT
