Ka Chuan And Shahril Refute Bribery Claims Want Probe
Former MCA secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan and BN information chief Shahril Hamdan have denied allegations that they received payment from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB).
Ong told Malaysiakini that the claims against him were unfair and the accuser should put forth all evidence and details in the public domain as well as submit them to the authorities.
"Please don't leave out a single word I say. Firstly, I completely deny the allegation. There has to be evidence. You can't simply say you paid people. You need details such as method of payment and when was the payment.
"Make it clear and then hand it over to the MACC. You can't simply say 'I paid you RM1,000'. When did it happen? How did it happen? Please report this (in your article).
"(If the witness in court) is transparent or has informed the MACC, then no problem. I will cooperate. If not, this is unfair (to me). I believe this allegation is baseless," he added.
Meanwhile, Shahril said the allegations against him were untrue.
"I am ready to cooperate with the authorities under any circumstances on this matter," he said in a statement.
Ong and Shahril were among three politicians named by former UKSB administrative manager David Tan Siong Sun during the trial against former deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
During the trial today, Zahid's lawyer quizzed Tan about several entries in UKSB's ledger to which Tan said those entries recorded political contributions to Ong (RM922,820), Shahril (RM1.162 million) and former MCA deputy president Chan Kong Choy (RM7.85 million).
Zahid was alleged to have received kickbacks from UKSB, a contractor for Putrajaya's Foreign Visa System (VLN).
Previously, Tan and other UKSB staff testified that other politicians named in the ledger are Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, Warisan president Shafie Apdal, Parti Cinta Sabah president Anifah Aman and Umno figures Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy Jamaluddin and Reezal Merican Naina Merican. - Mkini
