Probe Against Ex Spy Chief Still Going On Says Minister

Former intelligence chief Hasanah Ab Hamid was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal in her RM50 million CBT case in April. (Bernama pic)PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still investigating former intelligence chief Hasanah Ab Hamid for alleged criminal breach of trust, says law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
In April, Hasanah, the former head of the Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation, was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) in her RM50 million CBT case.
The prosecution had indicated that she would face the charge at a later date following the discovery of a “new development”.
In a written parliamentary reply, Wan Junaidi said the Attorney-General’s Chambers had received MACC’s investigation paper on Hasanah’s case on Oct 4 last year.

“However, further investigations against Hasanah are ongoing following a concurrent MACC probe against its own officer over missing case items related to the case.
“This has caused further delays in the probe against Hasanah and no recommendations have been made by MACC so far,” he said in response to a question from R Sivarasa (PH-Sungai Buloh).
Sivarasa had asked about the status of the case, pointing out that Wan Junaidi had previously said the matter had been referred back to MACC for further investigations.
The PKR MP asked why it was taking more than a year for Hasanah to face fresh charges after being given a DNAA by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Hasanah was accused of misappropriating RM50 million in government funds with which she was entrusted between April 30 and May 9, 2018.
In January, an MACC officer pleaded not guilty to misappropriating US$6.94 million (about RM29 million) seized by the agency related to her case.
MACC had previously confirmed that three of its senior officers had been arrested to assist in investigations into allegations of abuse of power and malpractice in connection with the case. - FMT
