Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says Gua Musang voters do not want him to retire from politics yet.PETALING JAYA: Umno elder Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah said he might be fielded for re-election to the Gua Musang parliamentary seat for the 13th term as he was “still needed” by his constituents.
He said many of his voters, including the Orang Asli, do not want him to retire. The Gua Musang Umno division had also unanimously urged him to remain as a candidate in a meeting today, he said.
Tengku Razaleigh, 85, better known as Ku Li, has been Gua Musang MP for the past 12 terms since 1974 when the constituency was named Ulu Kelantan. In 2018, he won by a majority of 3,913 votes against two others from PAS and PKR.
“Gua Musang constituents do not want me to retire, they don’t want anyone else. My division secretary has asked me to stay as long as I’m able to. I should continue serving the constituency,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.

Separately, Tengku Razaleigh said the coming general election would show the level of acceptance for PAS among the electorate in Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu as it had declined to work with Umno this time around.
He said he felt that PAS wants to cooperate with Umno to save its position in the three states.
“So this election would be a test of whether the voters in these three states are satisfied with PAS’ administration.
“If its edge in these states is due to its cooperation with Bersatu, then so be it, there is nothing wrong with that,” he said. - FMT
