5219 Businessman Charged With Accepting Rm1 4m Without License Bernama 27 08 2019

SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 -- A businessman was today charged at the Sessions Court here today on two counts of taking RM1.14 million from two individuals without license between 2016 and 2017.

The accused Rosman Jamal, 39, however pleaded not guilty after both charges were read before Judge Yang Zaimey Yang Ghazali.

For the first charge, Rosman was accused of receiving a deposit of RM375,500 in 10 transactions from a member of the public without possessing the valid license under Section 10 of the Financial Services Act 2013 (Act 758) between Jan 17 2016 to Feb 6 2017.

According to the charge sheet, he had allegedly committed the two offences at a premises in Jalan Snuker 13/28, Tadisma Business Park, Section 13 here according to Section 137(1) of the act which is punishable under Section 137(2) of the same act.

The act provides a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine not exceeding RM50 million or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Norhana Sahat who conducted the prosecution applied to the court to set bail at RM160,000 for both charges but counsel for the accused Jason Singh appealed to the court for a lower amount.

Judge Yang Zaimey later set bail at RM45,000 for both charges in one surety and the accused is also required to surrender his passport to the court and report to the nearest police station at the beginning of the month.

The court also sets Sept 26 for mention of the case 

In April 2018, 28 individuals lodged police reports alleging fraud by Yayasan Amanah Niaga Kebangsaan Malaysia on an investment fund involving losses of about RM4.7 million.

They sought the assistance of the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) after the alleged investment in 2016 promised returns of between 20 and 35 per cent each month.
