2 Malays Elected To Cec Shows Dap Has Progressed Says Syahredzan

Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan and Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman are the two Malay members on DAP’s central executive committee for the 2025-2028 term.
SHAH ALAM: The election of two Malay leaders to DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) today shows the party has made progress over the years in terms of diversity, says Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan.
Syahredzan was elected to the CEC alongside Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman after securing 2,065 and 1,943 votes, respectively, from the delegates.
Syahredzan was later appointed as one of the party’s four vice-chairmen while Young Syefura was made assistant publicity secretary.
“People might say DAP is still a party with a majority of non-Malay members, but we need to remember that we have come a long way,” Syahredzan told FMT at the conclusion of the DAP convention here today.
“Three years ago, only Young Syefura made it into the top 30 (in the CEC elections). Today’s results reflect the diversity in DAP and also shows that the party members are ‘colour-blind’.
“Two out of the six Malay candidates made it into the top leadership, which shows that DAP members don’t care about one’s race, but their capability and contribution to the party.”
Syahredzan paid tribute to party veteran Lim Guan Eng, who was appointed as national adviser, for paving the way for DAP to become more inclusive and multiracial.
He also said he would make use of his vice-chairmanship to reach out to the Malay electorate, who are not DAP’s traditional support base.
“When Lim was the secretary-general, he really kickstarted the drive to recruit more Malays.
“This needs to continue and I see my role as vice-chairman as not only to solidify our base but to capture those who aren’t traditionally our supporters,” he said. - FMT
