Pn Has Good Reasons To Reject Draft Mou On Allocations Says Muhyiddin

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said that during PN’s time in government, opposition MPs had been given allocations unconditionally.
PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin says the coalition has valid reasons to reject the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) on equal allocations for opposition MPs.

Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president, said the conditions imposed by the government in the draft document were too strict and unfair.
“I read the deputy prime minister’s statement that (Muar MP) Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had accepted the government’s terms (on allocations for his constituency). That’s his choice, but PN has valid reasons for not accepting the proposed terms.
“The conditions are extraordinary – so strict that it feels like we have to surrender everything to Pakatan Harapan just to receive RM200,000 or RM300,000,” he told reporters at a Ramadan event by his party in Negeri Sembilan last night, according to Sinar Harian.
On Saturday, it was reported that Syed Saddiq had agreed in principle to several terms of an agreement under which development funds for his constituency would be released.
Deputy prime minister Fadillah Yusof said that the draft of an agreement for Syed Saddiq was in its final stages.
He also said that Syed Saddiq was the “only one” who had responded and submitted a formal letter on the matter.
Fadillah said the government was waiting for a response from the opposition to prepare a proposal for a bi-partisan committee on allocations for opposition MPs.
However, Muhyiddin maintained that the draft given to PN for consideration was unfair.
He also said that during PN’s time in government, opposition MPs had been given allocations unconditionally.
“For those of us with experience, we’ve scrutinised the terms and know that they go against our principles. We simply cannot accept them.
“By selectively approving funds, the government is clearly discriminating between those who support it and those who don’t,” he said.
In September last year, Fadillah said that the government would only address the draft MoU on allocations for opposition MPs after receiving formal documents from them.
PN chief whip Takiyuddin Hassan said then that PN was still discussing whether to accept the seven conditions proposed by the government, which the opposition had described as strange.
Besides the declaration of assets and support for the government, the agreement had also touched on the issues of race, religion, and royalty. - FMT
