Dap S Malay Champs Syahredzan Young Syefura Urged To Sue Detractors For Spewing Traitor Apostate Remarks
(FM): DECADES of demonising, defaming and slandering DAP seems to have done its job. Well, for a certain segment of social media anyway.
With the recently concluded DAP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) elections, social media is awash with racist tirades and all manner of accusations.
A presumably Madani-backer Gibran (@Deathtokoruptor) took to X to highlight the online bile aimed specifically at two Malay DAP lawmakers who made it into the 30-member CEC – Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan (who has been made the party’s vice-chairman) and Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman (assistant national publicity secretary).
The poster was repulsed by the level of toxicity of comments which he claims has been manipulated by those with religious and racial agendas, especially those from the opposition bloc.
This came about after Syahredzan claimed that both him and Young Syefura had been accused of not only being traitors to the Malay race but “have become apostates for uplifting an infidel to lead the country”.
Comparing these keyboard warriors to the Taliban, Gibran pointed out that nothing had changed from past decades. In spite of the internet age and freely available information, he lamented that many were still spewing the same old tired and hateful rhetoric of yesteryears.
Likeminded commenters were of the opinion that such language of hate was the consequence of radical teachings that made people backward and stupid.
Some were in no doubt as to the cause of such behaviour, pointing the finger at Islamist party PAS for its tired rhetoric.
Some netizens urged the wronged parties to take legal action. This is not just to teach those opposition-centric keyboard warriors a lesson but also to stop such rhetoric from being normalised.
Some were seen egging Young Syefura to initiate legal proceedings, if only to bolster her festive season funds.
There was nothing surprising at all as this was the kind of content that is indoctrinated among Malays since young, claimed one netizen.
He challenged others to do research on Malay acceptance of Chinese-based parties such as DAP, Gerakan and MCA to see what the findings were.
One commenter counselled that perhaps it was better to stay away from the increasingly toxic platforms such as Facebook and TikTok.
One gleefully pulled out a past declaration from PAS supremo Tan Sri Hadi Awang for proof that politicians are never to be trusted. Political expediency was all that mattered to them considering that the seven-term Marang MP once rallied profusely in support of DAP (when PAS and DAP were allies of Pakatan Rakyat).
With another netizen in no doubt how and where such thinking came about.
Quite a few rightly pointed out that the difference is merely political, not religious. It was argued that PAS did not have a divine right to heaven nor is their version of the religion the be-all-end-all. Many were less than amused by this blinkered world view.
One challenged the religious authorities to issue a decree declaring that Muslim involvement in DAP was strictly prohibited if the decades of allegations that the party is anti-Islam is indeed true.
In this day and age, instead of using technology to gain knowledge or be better informed citizens, many still fall back on tired, old tactics of rubbishing political opponents with racial and religious rhetoric.
It does seem that for many Malaysians, this is the only method of political dialogue they are capable of or comfortable with. They need to realise that it is time to move forward.
One netizen summed it up best when he contended that the Malays should be grateful that their race is represented in DAP “so as to earmark and finetune any shortcomings in the party from the inside”. – March 19, 2025
