DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said he will not propose any Cabinet reshuffle as yesterday’s CEC elections were part of the party’s internal affairs.
PETALING JAYA: The outcome of DAP’s central executive committee (CEC) elections yesterday will not affect the positions of ministers or deputy ministers from the party, says its secretary-general, Loke Siew Fook.
Loke, who is also the transport minister, said he will not propose any Cabinet reshuffle as the elections were part of the party’s internal affairs.
“DAP leaders still represent the party, so the ministers or deputy ministers will continue to serve in their current positions whether they are CEC members or not,” Bernama quoted him as saying.
“The party will not propose any changes to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. If the prime minister wants to make a reshuffle, he will ask the party for its views as well.
“As the party secretary-general, I will not make any proposal to the PM to make any changes.”
Yesterday, 30 members were appointed to the CEC after DAP’s 18th national congress in Shah Alam.
Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo secured the top spot in the elections with 2,785 votes, while Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen finished second with 2,631 votes, and deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching was third with 2,585.
They were followed by Selangor executive councillor Ng Suee Lim (2,563), Loke (2,508) and Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin (2,503).
Among the biggest upsets were deputy finance minister Lim Hui Ying, firebrand Jelutong MP RSN Rayer and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok, all of whom failed to make it into the party’s 30-member CEC. - FMT
