In a Bernama report, Johor police chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said a 40-year-old lorry driver was arrested for driving under the influence of heroin at 9am at the Skudai Toll Plaza (southbound) here today.
The man, who had earlier taken a urine test, was driving an unladen five-tonne lorry from Muar and heading towards Pasir Gudang.
“It is believed the person had consumed drugs while driving. During the arrest, he was said to be semi-conscious but in a state of euphoria.
“We also found a certain amount of heroin wrapped in plastic in his bag, which he admitted to be his,” he told a media conference after the operation.
Ayob Khan said police also detained another local man, aged 25, who tested positive for ganja. A packet of ganja was recovered in the man’s bag.
The man, who owns a shop selling ornamental fish, was driving a Ford Ranger en route to Taman Sri Kluang, heading towards Taman Ungku Tun Aminah when he was detained at the toll plaza.
Ayob Khan said both suspects were taken to the Kulai district police contingent for investigation under Sections 6 and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The arrests, he said, were part of the Ops Bersepadu operation which began at 8am today. The operation involved 51 personnel from the narcotics criminal investigation department, the department of environment, PLUS Malaysia Berhad and the Bukit Aman highway patrol unit.
Ayob Khan added that 93 summonses were issued for various offences following checks on 152 vehicles.
“The operation was held following public information on speeding, dangerous driving, faulty brakes, bald tyres and carrying dangerous loads,” he said.
During the operation, police used a device fitted with the intelligent compound online payment system (iCOPS) to trace vehicles that had outstanding summonses, false registration plates or had been reported stolen, he added. - FMT
