19 000 Evacuated In Pahang As Floods Worsen

The number of evacuees has also risen in Terengganu, and in Kelantan, Tanah Merah became the second district to be hit by floods after Gua Musang.
In Tanah Merah, eight relief centres were opened to accommodate 125 evacuees from 33 families.
The situation in Gua Musang has, however, improved with all the relief centres closed yesterday.
The situation in Perak, Selangor and Johor, however, is reported to be improving with a drop in the number of evacuees.
In Pahang, the flood situation is reported to have worsened with 18,976 people from 5,032 families having been moved to 241 relief centres as at 7.30am.
The Social Welfare Department’s information portal said the Maran district continued to record the highest number of evacuees with 4,501, followed by Temerloh (3,020), Lipis (2,551), Raub (2,402), Jerantut (2,329), Kuantan (2,321), Rompin (1,012), Pekan (430) and Bera (410).
The situation in Bentong is back to normal with the closure of the relief centres in the district yesterday.
The level of the flood assessment point in Bera, Kuantan, Lipis, Jerantut, Temerloh and Maran was still above the danger point this morning.
ANIH Bhd, the concessionaire of the East Coast Expressway Phase 1, said Km113 and Km115 were closed in both directions because of the floods.
The Kuantan-bound Km84.6 to Km84.7 between Persimpangan Lanchang and Persimpangan Kara is also closed to traffic, but the route from Lanchang heading to Kuala Lumpur has reopened since 9am yesterday.
Yesterday, police said a man was believed to have been electrocuted while wading through floodwaters in the compound of his house at Kampung Paya Kechik in Temerloh.
Temerloh district police chief Mohd Yusri Othman said the incident occurred at about 6.30pm when Isyraf Muhammad, 41, was believed to have touched a pole at his garage.
His mother, who rushed to his aid but was thrown off, was taken to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh for treatment.
In Terengganu, the number of flood victims increased to 267 at 8am, from 117 at 3pm yesterday.
Two relief centres were reopened in Dungun to take in 156 evacuees, the state disaster management committee said. - FMT
