14 Day Quarantine For All Travellers Arriving In Malaysia
All travellers to Malaysia are required to take a Covid-19 test three days before boarding and undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival with immediate effect, said Putrajaya.
In a statement today, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the National Security Council (NSC) decided to take these measures due to the presence of the Covid-19 variant of concern worldwide.
"Considering that more than 50 percent of the countries reported Covid-19 variant of concern (VOC) in their communities, the NSC meeting today agreed to tighten the SOP by extending the quarantine period.
"All travellers must take RT-PCR test three days prior to their departure and another test upon arriving.
"The mandatory quarantine period for Malaysian and non-Malaysian travellers who came from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan will be extended from 14 days to 21 days at the quarantine centres designated by the government," he said.
As for travellers from India, he said the 21-day compulsory quarantine will remain.
"The quarantine period for travellers who are coming back from other countries will be extended to 14 days from 10 days.
"However, the 14-day quarantine will be extended for another seven days (to a total of 21 days) if necessary, according to risk assessment finding that will be implemented on the 14th day," added the senior minister for security cluster.
"A repeat RT-PCR test will be conducted on the 10th day. In case the quarantine period is extended to 21 days, another test will be conducted on the 18th day."
The implementation will be effective immediately, added Ismail. - Mkini
