Zahid To Seek Clarification From Mic On Possible Pn Move

BARISAN Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has said he will personally seek clarification from MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran regarding speculation that the party may join Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Zahid’s remarks came after MIC leaders indicated they were open to exploring new political alignments.
“I will ask him myself,” Utusan Malaysia quoted him as saying.
Meanwhile, deputy MIC president M Saravanan confirmed that PAS and Bersatu have extended invitations for the party to join PN. He said the final decision on whether MIC will quit BN and join PN will only be made at the party’s general assembly in November. He stressed that neither he nor the president could decide unilaterally.
“The (final decision) will not be by me or the president. Both the president and I have no power to decide.”
Vigneswaran earlier said MIC had not ruled out cooperation with PN but that it was premature to commit. The party has voiced dissatisfaction over being sidelined in the unity government, alleging it was denied a Cabinet post promised after the 2022 general election, fuelling speculation about its political direction.
In March 2019, MCA and MIC presidents Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Vigneswaran jointly called for an urgent BN Supreme Council meeting to decide the coalition’s future, saying its multiracial foundation had been undermined.
They argued that repeated internal attacks had fractured mutual respect among members, leaving the parties no choice but to explore a new alliance.
The statement also noted that MCA, at its December 2018 general assembly, had resolved to propose BN’s dissolution to pave the way for a fresh coalition. — Focus Malaysia
